Why should I have my GORE-TEX Gear repaired?
Repairing the GORE-TEX Gear that you already own is the most environmentally responsible choice you can make, and doing so enables you to wear and enjoy your favourite items for longer! By repairing and extending the life of your much-loved GORE-TEX Garments or Accessories, you reduce that item’s carbon impact, and save money at the same time. The GORE-TEX Brand’s repair service is powered by United Repair Centre, who share in our mission to protect both people and planet. United Repair Centre provide meaningful employment opportunities to those at a distance from the labour market. So by choosing to repair, you make both a sustainable choice, and actively support social inclusion.
What GORE-TEX Gear can be repaired and what is unrepairable?
Powered by our authorised repair centre, United Repair Centre, the GORE-TEX Brand’s repair service enables a wide range of GORE-TEX Garments and Accessories to be mended. Repairs include fixing tears, broken zippers, detached seam tape and worn fabrics. Items that are severely damaged beyond practical repair or have compromised structural integrity may be considered unrepairable. Each item is assessed individually to determine the best course of action. Items at that are unlikely to be suitable for repair are those with significant damage, heavily stained and/or have multiple rips/holes on various sections, e.g., multiple, significant damages on the same item with stains throughout, including multiple rips and holes on the sleeves and shoulders, or extensive damage to one critical area where the cost to repair might outweigh the cost of repair. You can contact the GORE-TEX Brand’s consumer services if you require advice before proceeding.
What happens if my item is unrepairable?
When we assess an item, we may deem it to be unfit for repair, so will contact you to discuss this outcome. You will be given the choice to have the item returned, or to have us recycle it. This might include a partial return of payment.
How do I indicate what needs to be repaired?
During the online registration of your GORE-TEX Gear repair, you will be guided in choosing the type and size of your repair. There will also be an open text field where you can describe what needs to be repaired and how you would like it to be completed. When sending an item for repair, you should clearly mark the areas that need attention using a piece of paper, tape, or a safety pin. Do not use duct tape or other heavy-duty tape as these can leave glue residue, which may further damage your GORE-TEX Gear. Additionally, make sure to include a printed version of the confirmation email with the repair summary and repair number.
How do I define the severity of my repair?
The severity of a repair depends on the extent of damage and the complexity of the work required. Minor repairs might include fixing a loose seam stitch or mending small tears, while major repairs could involve reconstructing parts of the garment. When you register your GORE-TEX Gear repair you will be guided to select the right repair. There will be short descriptions and indications to help you make the right assessment. When we receive your GORE-TEX Garment or Accessory, we will check it over. If the repair is different from your original selection, we will get in touch with you to discuss the options. This might require an additional payment if the damage is more complex or extensive.
How long does it take to get my item repaired?
The GORE-TEX Brand and our authorised repair centre, United Repair Centre, aim to ensure a fast and efficient service. Once your item arrives at the repair centre, we target a 7-day period, starting from when we receive your item at the facility, ending on the day it is delivered back to you. This timeframe allows the repair centre to maintain high quality GORE-TEX Gear repairs while ensuring that your garments are returned to you promptly. When, for whatever reason, the repair will take significantly longer, we will get in touch with you to let you know.
What will the repair look like?
GORE-TEX Gear repairs are done by professional tailors, trained by Gore in the correct methods of repair and upholding the highest standards. The tailors pay careful attention to detail and repairs are designed to be as inconspicuous as possible. However, some repairs may be visible, depending on the fabric and nature of the damage. You can also specify in the text section if you wish to have an obvious repair, for example a contrast colour patch – to show proudly your commitment to extending the life of your GORE-TEX Gear!
What will my repair cost?
The cost of GORE-TEX Gear repairs varies based on the type of repair needed and the complexity of the work involved. When you register your repair, you’ll receive an estimate cost. Please find our standard price list here for guidance. Once your item arrives and the repair centre has assessed it, it may be the case that the severity of the damage differs to the initial request. In this case we will get in touch and let you know the correct repair type/severity and the associated adjustment to the cost.
